Obituary: Michael Aslam Aug. 6, 2002 – Oct. 29, 2022

On Saturday October 29, 2022, Mikey Aslam, loving son, brother, and friend passed away at the age of 20. 

Mikey was born in Los Alamos, NM on August 6, 2002, to parents Tariq and Kimberly Aslam. He spent most of his life growing up in New Mexico. In 2009 Mikey and his family moved to South Bend, IN for a year, where Mikey got the opportunity to be close to relatives, fish in a backyard lake and ice skate during the winter. In the fall of 2014, he moved to Santa Barbara, CA for a semester where he would spend a bit of everyday at the beach. Mikey graduated from Los Alamos High School in 2020 and then moved to Bozeman, MT to attend Montana State University to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. 

Mikey was an avid outdoorsman, always seeking the next exploration. As an eagle scout Mikey spend most of his middle and high school years earning merit badges and adventuring with his friends. He spent many weekends on long backpacking trips, hiking 14ers in Colorado, and partaking in other scouting High Adventure trips. 

Faith was an important part in Mikey’s life. He attended several retreats and was active in the youth groups of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Mikey was confirmed as a practicing Catholic in the spring of 2019. 

He fell in love with skiing at the age of 15. In the winter you could always find Mikey on a mountain, spending every waking moment on the slopes. In early 2022, Mikey spent time working at Big Sky ski resort in Montana where he enjoyed skiing every day. 

Mikey’s charismatic nature filled everyone’s hearts with so much joy. He was known for his humor, an infectious smile and compassionate spirit who really knew how to life everyday to the fullest.  Mikey made the world a brighter place.

Mikey was preceded in death by his grandparents Harry and Nancy Stimson. He is survived by his mother, Kimberly, father, Tariq, his three siblings, Jimmy, Holly, and Hannah along with his grandparents Muhammad and Carol Aslam, and several aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins.

A scholarship to honor the memory of Mikey Aslam has been set up with Champions of Youth Ambitions. Donations can be made to Champions of Youth Ambitions at Enterprise Bank and Trust. A memorial Mass for Michael will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 11:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos, NM, followed by a reception at 12:30 pm in the Parish Hall.
