Save The Date: 2022 CROP Hunger Walk And Turkey Trot Is Nov. 20

BY CYNTHIA Z. BIDDLECOMB

Los Alamos walkers and runners are being asked to save the date of Sunday, Nov. 20 for the 2022 Los Alamos CROP Hunger Walk and Turkey Trot. The location is the same as in past years, the parking lot in front of Los Alamos Middle School (on North Mesa). Registration at the event will begin at 1:30 p.m. When the starting pistol goes off at 2:00 p.m.folks can choose to run or walk the 1.7 or 2.57 mile course.

The CROP Hunger Walk is a nationwide movement sponsored by Church World Service to raise funds to end hunger and poverty in the U.S. and around the world. Hundreds of religious groups, businesses, schools and others around our nation organize local Walk events in their communities each year. The Los Alamos walk/run event has been raising money annually for more than 30 years. L.A. Cares, our local food bank, will receive at least 25% of the total funds raised, with the rest going to hunger and relief efforts around the world.

Between now and November 20, potential participants are encouraged to talk up the event and ask family and friends to donate to the cause. To register in advance for the event, and to start fundraising online right away, one need only go to this website, https://www.crophungerwalk.org/losalamosnm/ and set up their own page. There, one can link their page to one’s own social media account as a way of spreading the word. Instead, one could just link that web address in an email to their friends and supporters. Potential donors can use the website to find a walker they want to support, then easily donate online.

Donations raised by local folks will be tallied at the end of the event and reported to the community through another article in this news source. Either way, the funds go to the cause of fighting hunger and poverty in Los Alamos, around our nation, and around the world.
