Many Los Alamos diners and LANL commuters have expressed their sadness and concern about the temporary closure of Bob’s Bodacious BBQ due to the unavailability of staff. Lyle and and Gayle Cunningham, who also own Papa Murphy’s Pizza, put the popular restaurant on reduced hours and began serving lunch only in mid-September.

“We thought we had found someone to work but they never showed up this week, so we are back to square one. We are having no luck finding kitchen help. We just need employees who can do the job and be on time,” Gayle Cunningham told the Los Alamos Reporter Wednesday. “The job is fast-paced during meal the meal time rush. Staff needs to be able to keep orders organized and get items prepared in a timely manner.”

She said they placed all the food they could into their deep freezer early last week. Now they have more meat they need to cook so they are clearing the freezers out. Here’s where the opportunity arises to help the small business make it through the temporary closure. If you have eaten their barbecued meats, you will know why they need to stay open, and if you haven’t been there before, this is a good time grab some.

Bob’s will be open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6 or until they sell out of bags of frozen cooked and sliced brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken and hot wings. The price will be the same per pound as on the online menu at www.bobsbodaciousbbq.com) for that item.

“Everything will be bagged and frozen, so the weight is what it is – but there is some variance in those weights. The bags mostly range from 3-5 pounds so there is plenty for dinner and some leftovers,” Gayle said. “This will all be sold first come first served. Nothing will be hot and there will only be meat available. We will not be serving dinner – just selling the bags.”

Staff will not be taking pre-orders and will be taking phone calls Thursday to reserve meats. The usual payment methods, debit/credit cards and cash, will be accepted.

Bob’s will be cooking more meat later this week so watch out for another sale announcement.

Let your friends and neighbors know about the meat sale and if you know someone who would be a good employee for the Cunninghams, ask them to reach out.

Bob’s Bodacious BBQ is located at 3801 Arkansas in Los Alamos.
