Does there seem to be something getting in the way of learning?

Do you have a student in the GATE program who has a hard time taking tests?

Does your student struggle with grades despite understanding the content?

Has a screening characterized your student as being at-risk for dyslexia?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, or if you have questions of your own, please join Los Alamos Dyslexia Advocates (LADA) at one of our upcoming open houses.

Dyslexia is a neurobiological difference in the brain that occurs across the IQ spectrum. Signs of dyslexia can include difficulties with reading, or with fluent reading, as well as challenges with writing, spelling, and even math. Speech delays, articulation errors, and ADHD may occur alongside dyslexia. Dyslexia affects students differently, and the ability to read does not rule out dyslexia. Students with high IQs can mask their troubles, making it hard to identify dyslexia; a phenomenon known as stealth dyslexia. While reading can be a challenge, dyslexia comes with many strengths like creative thinking, spatial awareness, and problem solving skills. Early identification and intervention are the key to helping students with dyslexia succeed. Regardless of age, it’s never too late to make a positive difference and allow the strengths of a dyslexic learner to flourish.

If your child has dyslexia, is suspected of having dyslexia, or simply isn’t thriving in school, and you want to learn more, please join the Los Alamos Dyslexia Advocates at our open house during the following events:
