A group of 34 Plein Air Painters of New Mexico artists participated in a days-long paint-out based out of Fuller Lodge Art Center beginning Tuesday, September 20 and culminating in a show and awards reception Saturday evening.

Prior to painting, artists had to show their canvas was blank and get the back of it officially stamped. They were required to paint from life within a designated area that included Los Alamos, Bandelier National Monument and the Valles Caldera National Preserve. A minimum of 80 percent of the printing had to be painted on location, from life.

Each artist could turn in up to two paintings and one Tiny Treasure on Thursday afternoon, meaning the artists only had 2 1/2 days to paint. The Tiny Treasures are 2 inches by 3 inches and each hangs in a commemorate tin. The artists painted portraits Wednesday along with the Los Alamos Life Drawing Group Wednesday evening and painted at the Farmers Market on Thursday. All the paintings are available for sale.

On Saturday, several artists gathered to paint under the trees at Ashley Pond Park in a workshop presented by PAPNM signature member and judge for the awards, Michelle Chrisman.

All the works painted during the paint-out are hanging at Fuller Lodge Art Center where they will remain until Oct. 8. Fuller Lodge is located at 2132 Central Avenue in Los Alamos.
