County: Community Development Dept. Seeks Community Input On White Rock Metropolitan Redevelopment Area Plan

COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

Los Alamos County’s Community Development Department (CDD) and its consultant Site Southwest invite the public to an open house to learn about the draft Metropolitan Redevelopment Area (MRA) Plan for White Rock. The open house will be held at the White Rock Library Multi-Purpose Room, 10 Sherwood Blvd., on Wednesday, Aug. 17. Community members may drop by between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to ask questions and provide feedback on proposed strategies to drive catalytic projects in the downtown. Proposed strategies include:

  • Public-Private Partnership Opportunities,
  • District-Wide Public Improvements,
  • Increased Commercial Activity, and
  • Tax Incentive & Tools.

The draft MRA Plan is part of a multi-year effort undertaken by CDD to define the community’s vision for the White Rock downtown. Guided by the adopted 2016 Comprehensive Plan and the 2021 White Rock Town Center Master Plan, the MRA Plan identifies vacant, deteriorated, or underutilized properties in the downtown boundary, then introduces strategies and incentives for redevelopment that decreases deterioration and increases the community’s vibrancy and economic activity.

Once adopted, the MRA Plan will identify strategies and tools to drive catalytic projects in downtown White Rock using public-private partnerships and incentives that comply with New Mexico state statutes.

Input received at the open house will be included in a CDD presentation of the Draft MRA Plan to the Council at the Sept. 20 meeting to be held at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1000 Central Avenue.
