COOPERATIVE EXTENSION NEWS RELEASE

The Los Alamos County Fair Blue Ribbon Homemade Pie Contest has been set for Saturday, Aug. 13.

Categories are as follows:

Lot 1 – Apple pie

Lot 2 – Blueberry Pie

Lot 3 – Cherry Pie

Lot 4 – Fruit Pie

Lot 5 – Peach Pie

Lot 6 – Pecan Pie

Lot 7 – Berry Pie

Lot 8 – Any other fruit pie

All pies must be made in Los Alamos County. Entries will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Cooperative Extension Service 4-H Booth near Ashley Pond. Judging will take place from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

A pie must consist of a crust and filling that is homemade. No canned fillings or premade pie crust.  No cheesecakes or dairy, cream pies, including whipped topping, meat, custard, quiche, meringue or pumpkins can be accepted due to food safety.

Each pie will be categorized into a class. Each class will have only one winning pie. The winning pies from each class will go up against each other for the first place prize to determine the overall winning pie.
