The Los Alamos Concert Association’s 76th season will bring a varied array of artists including pianist Emanuel Ax, the Pacifica Quartet with guitarist Sharon Isbin, and Les Violons du Roy with pianist Inon Barnatan.
The opening concert on September 28 will feature Zlatomir Fung, winner of the 2019 International Tchaikovsky Competition cello division. He is the first American cellist in four decades and the youngest ever to win the prestigious competition. Fung will perform with pianist Dina Vainshtein, winner of a Tchaikovsky Competition Special Prize for Best Collaborative pianist in 1998.
Multiple Grammy winners, the Pacifica Quartet and guitarist Sharon Isbin, will reunite in November to play quintets from their bestselling album, Souvenirs of Spain and Italy. The performance will feature quintets from the Baroque to mid-20th century, including works by Vivaldi, Boccherini, and Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
Another multiple Grammy winner, distinguished pianist Emanuel Ax, will perform in January. His last performance in Los Alamos was in 1976 shortly after he won the first Artur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv.
February will bring the Spanish Brass, a quintet known for their light-hearted mix of Spanish, Latin-American, and Baroque favorites. For its outstanding contribution to Spanish cultural life, the ensemble was awarded the Premio Nacional de Música by the Spanish Government in 2020.
Taking its name from the renowned court orchestra of the French kings, Quebec’s celebrated Les Violons du Roy joins forces in April with pianist Inon Barnatan in two concertos, one by C.P.E. Bach and another for piano and trumpet by Shostakovich. Barnatan, the Artist-in-Association of the New York Philharmonic for three seasons, is a regular soloist with many of the world’s foremost orchestras.
All concerts take place in the Duane Smith Auditorium on the campus of Los Alamos High School, 1300 Diamond Drive. Tickets at pre-season discounted prices are available through August 15th at www.losalamosconcert.org along with complete artist and venue information.
