Los Alamos ScienceFest 2022: Exploration will extend into the weekend, featuring “Discovery Day” on Saturday, July 16 from 10am-3pm at Ashley Pond Park and the surrounding area. Central Avenue will be closed from 20th Street to Oppenheimer from 7am-4pm on Saturday, with public access still available to the Justice Center Parking Lot.
The community and visitors are invited to come out for hands-on science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) demos from around 40 exhibitors, food vendors, music from the Troy Browne Trio, the Launch of StoryWalk® at Mesa and White Rock libraries, Bradbury Science Museum’s Challenge Tomorrow Trailers, Electric Vehicle Show, robotics and more! Those who stop by the Los Alamos MainStreet/Info booth to fill out a raffle entry will also have a chance to win a telescope.

Those interested in flying their drone should bring it to Discovery Day; some drones will also be available to test.

Also be sure to check out the StoryWalk® at the Mesa Public Library and White Rock Branch Library for ScienceFest! “Pluto Gets the Call” will be around White Rock Branch Library and “The Stuff of Stars” will be around the front of Mesa Public Library. Books were purchased with the generous funding of the Friends of Los Alamos County Library System. Winners will be noticed via text by August 2. The Friends of Los Alamos County Library System will also have a huge Science/Tech Books Bag Sale this Saturday, July 16, from 10am-3pm at Mesa Public Library.
Tours of the Los Alamos Historic District will also be available at 10am, 11am, 1pm and 2pm on Discovery Day. Tours start about 1,000 years ago and walks the visitors through the ancestral Puebloans, homesteading, the Los Alamos Ranch School, the Manhattan Project, Cold War and contemporary Los Alamos. Emphasis on espionage, cultures, and answering visitor questions. Cost is $20, and the tour lasts between 1.5 – 2 hours. Tickets include museum admission and are available at the Los Alamos History Museum Shop. Visitors 18 and younger are free with a ticketed adult.
After Discovery Day concludes, the fun continues with a special film screening at Fuller Lodge on Saturday, and with a “science of beer” discussion and outdoor movie at Bathtub Row Brewing later on Sunday.

Friends of MAPR-LA (supporting the NPS Historical Park) will be screening a film about the Trinity Test – the first atomic bomb test in history. July 16, 2022 falls on the 77th anniversary of this event. Bathtub Brewing Co-op will serve beer and wine. Tickets for this limited-seating (100) event will be sold for a tax-deductible donation of $20 each to the 501(c)(3) Friends organization. Tickets will be available in advance at Metzgers-Los Alamos, Bathtub Row Brewery, Pajarito Brewpub and Grill, and the Los Alamos History Museum.
SUNDAY, JULY 17

Come before the movie for a session about the science behind brewing beer!
8 PM – Movie at Dusk: “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” Bathtub Brewing Co-op, Outdoor patio
Outdoor movie screening, along with trivia and a chance to win prizes! Learn about beer chemistry from the head brewer before the film begins! This 1989 adventure comedy runs about 1.5 hours and is rated PG. The scientist father of a teenage girl and boy accidentally shrinks his and two other neighborhood teens to the size of insects. Now the teens must fight diminutive dangers as the father searches for them.
