LAHS NEWS RELEASE
On the July 16, 1945, in a remote high desert basin 220 miles south of Los Alamos, the first atomic detonation signaled a new era. Its success was the culmination of intense secret collaboration and innovation in science and engineering that took place in Los Alamos, NM, during the preceding 27 months. The test was code-named Trinity.
Today, the Trinity Site is located within the restricted White Sands Missile Range, but twice a year the army hosts an open house at the Historic Landmark Trinity Site and McDonald/Schmidt Ranch House. The Los Alamos Historical Society is pleased to offer its 20th educational Tour to Trinity, October 14-15, 2022.
Beginning and ending in Los Alamos, the Society’s Trinity chartered coach tour includes a unique two-day, one night experience via the Alamogordo southern approach, through the seldom-seen interior of White Sands Missile Range, and then north through the Stallion Gate.
Bonuses include a visit to the young (5,000-year-old) lava flows at Valley of Fires, the New Mexico Museum of Space History overlooking the Tularosa Basin, Holloman Air Force Base, and White Sands Missile Range. This excursion is arranged and directed by History Medal recipients Georgia and Gerry Strickfaden, leading their 19th trip to Trinity.
The cost for members is $550 double occupancy (Alamogordo Hampton Inn). For non-members, the cost is $650. Another $140 is charged for single room preference. The cost includes two lunches, transportation, lodging, entrance fees, and guides.
The RESERVATION DEADLINE is AUGUST 4, 2022. The trip is limited to 35 passengers for comfort and distancing on the large, restroom-equipped chartered coach. For Reservations, contact the History Museum, 1050 Bathtub Row, Los Alamos, NM, 87544, or contact
