The Family YMCA is hosting free “boot camp” workouts on the first and third Friday of each month starting in July through Sept. 16 from 5:45-6:30 a.m. at Urban Park.
The Y’s Fitness Coordinator Ethan Corriss will lead the workouts for Y and community members. He said each session is not quite military style because participants may choose how hard they would like to be pushed, as well as a goal that they would like to work towards that day.
Corriss has a background in plyometric and circuit training as a group instructor.
“Each class will be a little different and may include team activities, resistance training, cardio training, balance training and more,” said Corriss. “Unless conditions outside are deemed dangerous due to lightening, workouts will not be cancelled—maniacal laughter!”
While the program is offered as a fun support to community members, Corriss said that donations to the Y’s Annual Campaign for youth programs and scholarships are strongly encouraged. He said he hopes people will donate at a personally significant capacity.
Corriss said funds will go towards the Y’s scholarship program that usually helps 200 kids to be in Y camp or programs, and gives close to 100 adults a health membership at the Y. People may donate at the Y, mail a donation, or donate online at laymca.org/donation.
“Everyone who donates gets to sign our Boot Camp flag,” Corriss said, “We need to fill that flag with names in the next three months!”
The classes will be held from 5:45-6:30 am on July 1, July 15, August 5, August 18, September 2 and September 16.
