LAPD Investigating Catalytic Converter Thefts, Makes One Arrest

The Los Alamos Police Department Criminal Investigations Section has been investigating catalytic converter thefts involving six victims, one stolen vehicle, and theft of a credit card that have occurred in Los Alamos County over the past several months.

Detectives executed a search warrant in Santa Fe County with the assistance of Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) officers on June 16.

LAPD Detectives arrested 34-year-old Jessica Middleton of Santa Fe in connection with these crimes.

LAPD Detectives continue to investigate these crimes and further arrest warrants are imminent.  LAPD asks anyone with additional information to call LA crime stoppers at (505) 662-8282.

LAPD also asks citizens to report any suspicious behavior in and around parked vehicles to the Los Alamos Dispatch Center by dialing (505) 662-8222 or dialing 9-1-1 in an emergency.

“We want to thank BIA for their assistance and remind citizens that catalytic converters continue to be a high target for thieves.  Aftermarket kits may be purchased to make it more difficult for thieves to remove catalytic converters. However, citizen awareness and reporting suspicious behavior assists LAPD in combating this national trend,” Deputy Chief Morris said.
