LAPS FOUNDATION NEWS RELEASE
The Friends of the Los Alamos County Libraries, in partnership with the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation, have awarded the 2022 June Ettinger Memorial Scholarship to Kate Whitley for her review of the book Field Guide to the Sandia Mountains, edited by Robert Julyan and Mary Stuever.
The scholarship was created to honor those who love books. Applicants were asked to write a personal narrative concerning an age-appropriate book that was not required for school and that has not been translated into a visual medium. The narrative had to demonstrate in what ways the book added to the student’s understanding of the human condition or had enhanced their life.
Kate is the daughter of Lori Whitley and Von Whitley. She will attend the University of New Mexico in the fall where she plans to major in biology.
Funds for the June Ettinger Memorial Scholarship are managed by the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation, an independent organization which serves as the connection between our community and school district, evaluating needs and investing resources to improve the quality of public education in our community.
