Road Construction Update: Week of June 20, 2022

Public Works Projects:
The projects listed in this section are being managed by County Public Works staff through contractors. Please note the below information is based on a schedule provided by the contractors and may change due to weather or other delays.
Sherwood Blvd and Aztec Ave
Crews with Star Paving Company will continue road and drainage improvements on Sherwood Blvd between Piedra Loop and Aztec Ave. Crews will be working on Monday, June 20.
Sherwood Blvd. will be closed to through traffic at the intersection of Aztec Ave and Grand Canyon Dr. Residents on Sherwood will be required to enter and exit Sherwood either from Aztec or Grand Canyon, depending on the daily position of the movable work zone. This closure is necessary to facilitate installation of new storm drainpipe.
Traffic devices and detour signs are in place to help motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians navigate around the work zone.
Vehicular access is limited to those who reside in the immediate work area and mail delivery, emergency services, trash, and recycling collection. For the safety of the traveling public, residents are asked not to remove or relocate traffic control devices, signs, and barricades. Area residents who may have special access needs are asked to contact the Public Works Department.
Closure of Sherwood from Grand Canyon to Aztec for this first phase of work is scheduled through the end of June, while closure for the next phase of roadwork from Longview Dr to Aztec Ave is scheduled for July 2022 and the final phase from Piedra Loop to Grand Canyon is scheduled for August 2022.
Bixby Electric is working along Sherwood installing a new conduit for streetlights for Sherwood at the intersection. Work schedules are subject to change pending weather conditions and any material shipping delays. Work Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Cumbres del Norte
Star Paving crews continue removal operations of curbs and gutters, sidewalks, and drive pads from the intersection of Camino Redondo and San Ildefonso, Expect contractor personnel and equipment within the area. Crews will be working on Monday, June 20. Please use caution while traveling through the project work zone.
Traffic & Streets Projects:
The projects listed in this section are being managed by County Traffic & Streets Division staff. Please slow down and use caution within the construction work zones. Call Daniel Blea, Acting Traffic and Streets Manager for concerns, 505-663-8206.
Countywide Striping
Crews will continue striping roads in White Rock and Los Alamos. Vehicle and pedestrian traffic are urged to maintain a safe distance from the striping equipment to prevent getting their property from sprayed with paint.
Driveway Apron and Sidewalk Replacements on Navajo Rd, Coyote and Totavi St
June 21-24 Streets crews will continue replacing driveway aprons at 580 Navajo and 30 Coyote, as well as a section of sidewalk on Totavi St. Work will commence each day at 8:00 a.m. and finish by 3:30 p.m. Sidewalks will be closed. Detours for pedestrian traffic will be in place. Flagging operations may exist as needed. Please follow all traffic devices.
Deacon St Curb and Gutter Repairs-Sidewalk Closures and Detours
June 21-22 Streets crews will be replacing curbs & gutters and repairing handicap ramps on Deacon St. Work will begin each day at 8:00 a.m. and finish up at 3:30 p.m. Sidewalks will be close. Detours for pedestrian traffic will be in place. Flagging operations may exist as needed. Please follow all traffic devices.
Non-County Projects:
The following road construction updates are posted below in the interest of keeping residents informed but are being managed or conducted by others. Please obey all traffic devices and slowdown in work zones.
Sidewalk Closure on East Side of 15th St between Trinity Dr & Central Ave.
CableCom, LLC and 2 Men 1 Cable will continue boring along 15th St between Trinity Dr & Central Ave and will be replacing pedestals within this location.
The sidewalk will be closed on the east side of 15th from Trinity to Central. The sidewalk will also be closed from the SE corner of 15th and Central at the intersection heading east on Central.
The contractor will shift lanes to the east side of 15th St so they can accommodate their equipment in the shoulder on the west side of 15th. They will also shift lanes to the north on Central Ave so they can accommodate their equipment.
Traffic control signs will be in place to direct both pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Please obey all signs and slowdown in this construction zone.
Work began June 9 and will be completed by June 24. Crews will begin work daily at 9:00 a.m. and end by 4:00 p.m.

Sherwood Blvd Trenching/Boring Project
CableCom, LLC will continue boring along the sidewalk and across/under Sherwood Blvd in front of the White Rock US Post Office. The project should be completed by June 24. Work will commence daily at 9:00 a.m. and be complete by 4:00 p.m.
There will be a flagging operation situated on Longview Dr at the intersection of Sherwood Blvd. There will also be a flagging operation on Sherwood on both sides of the road with stop panels.
There are two active work zones in this location, pedestrian and vehicle traffic are urged to slow down, read all traffic control devices before proceeding and follow all flagmen in these work zones.

966 and 921 Capulin Sidewalk and Road Closure
CableCom, LLC., will be boring to replace cable at 966 and 921 Capulin. There will be sidewalk closures and intermittent road closures with flagging operations in place as needed. Crews will begin working June 20 and the project will be completed by June 24. They will begin each day at 9:00 a.m. and finish by 4:00 p.m.
Pedestrian traffic will be detoured, please watch for and obey all traffic devices and signs. Vehicle traffic please slowdown in the work zones and follow all traffic devices.

LANL: Bikini Atoll
Crews are working near the entrance to the Receiving and Distribution Center at TA03-0030.
Expect some delays on Bikini Atoll from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., through mid-August.
LANL: West Rd
Posts and cables are being installed along West Rd. Traffic will be reduced to one lane during the day. Traffic signals indicating the one-lane closure will start about 500 feet northeast of Omega Rd and extend about 500 feet west of the reservoir entrance. Obey the temporary traffic signals and watch for workers. The work is expected to be completed in early July.
