
Isabel Lucero Cummings, a loving and dedicated mother, passed away June 4, 2022. She was born in La Joya NM on June 19, 1935. She grew up in Santa Fe and resided in Los Alamos for more than 60 years.
Isabel was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Young; Charles Cummings, the father of her children; her parents Procopio & Eusebia Lucero; her brother Luis Lucero; her niece Angela Lucero.
She is survived by her sister Felonis Cortez, her son Chuck and his wife Chelsea Nicola Cummings; son-in law Dan Young; grandchildren Charlie and Matthew Young; Aashkii, River, Zia, and Akoya Isabella; a niece Celia Cortez and nephews Mark Lucero and Bob Cortez.
Isabel earned her Bachelors degree in 1960 from the Dominican College in Racine WI., and her Masters Degree in 1967 at the College of St. Joseph’s on the Rio Grande, UNM Albuquerque NM. She had a full career with Los Alamos Schools. She taught at Barranca Elementary School and Pinon Elementary School during their first years of opening in the early 1960s. She then became a diagnostician for Los Alamos Public Schools after earning her Masters degree and worked with LAPS until she retired.
Isabel has many friends in many states. She enjoyed painting and drawing. Her neighbors would hear her singing. She traveled the world with her sister Felo and close friends Mona and Ingrid, who also were her walking partners. They walked many miles a day for many years.
She was a faithful lifelong Catholic and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Los Alamos. She was part of a Prayer Chain and an Adoration group for many years.
A Rosary will be recited on June 15, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 3700 Canyon Rd., Los Alamos, NM. A funeral mass will be held with at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos and a luncheon at IHM Parish Hall afterwards.
