Pojoaque Valley Intermediate School teachers April Grant-Torrez and Michelle Sanchez were recently honored with $1,000 awards from the Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation and Centerra. Grant-Torrez teaches fourth grade; Sanchez teaches fifth.

Both teachers are actively engaged in the Regional Partnership School, a collaboration between Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Math and Science Academy, Pojoaque Valley School District and New Mexico Highlands University.

Initiatives at the RPS include professional development, summer math camps for area students and teachers, after-school math programs for students and teachers, in-school peer teaching and observation cycles, degree programs and innovative math curriculum.

The Española-based LANL Foundation inspires excellence in education and learning in Northern New Mexico through innovative programming, collaboration and advocacy. Centerra-Los Alamos is a provider of security solutions at the Laboratory.
