The Cerro Pelado Fire had zero growth Tuesday night and remains at 71 percent containment Wednesday morning. Some 824 personnel are working the fire and the Rocky Mountain Black Type 2 Team will take over from Great Basin Team #1 for incident management as of 7 a.m. Thursday.

With stronger winds predicted for Thursday and Friday, as well as a red flag watch for Friday, public information officer Mina Bolton said crews are going to take today and use the opportunity to continue to strengthen fire lines and look for hotspots.

“There is one hotspot that has a lot of heat and a lot of fuels is in the northwestern area of the fire so firefighters and air support will be working on that today, along with other hot spots within the perimeter,” she said.

Today is the last day the Los Alamos Reporter will have a 7:30 a.m. regular report on the fire directly from a public information officer but watch for continued coverage.
