Fire officials reported zero growth of the Cerro Pelado Fire overnight with 71 percent containment and 936 personnel working the fire.
“Today winds from the southwest of 10-15 mph will provide a good opportunity to strengthen the fire line. Crews will conduct a small firing on Road 280 and continue to monitor, patrol and look for hotspots,” said Great Basin Team #1 PIO Mina Bolton.
She noted that the team is anticipating creeping and smoldering from the fire today with minimal activity.
“Fire meteorologists are expecting a front to come in from the northeast on Wednesday. Thunderstorms are expected east of the fire. A fire weather watch has been issued for Thursday,” Bolton said. “Crews are taking advantage of today’s conditions to strengthen the fire lines that have already established”.
