County: Leisure Lagoon Update And Scheduled Closure Of Aquatic Center

COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

On March 31, Los Alamos County informed residents the opening of the Leisure Lagoon was postponed to late June due to supply chain issues involving vital pool equipment.  Unfortunately, these supply issues continue to delay shipment of this equipment further postponing opening of the pool, possibly to mid or late August.  The contractor and pool engineers thoroughly investigated alternative equipment and supply sources and found no other available options to date. Staff is working closely with the construction and design team to open the new facility as soon as possible even as recreation facilities have been closed due to the nearby Cerro Pelado fire.

On a positive note, equipment associated with upgrades to the Olympic Pool filtration system have arrived.  Installation of this new equipment is scheduled for the week of May 23rd, which will require continued closure of the Aquatic Center through Friday, May 27th. During the same week, crews are also scheduled to place epoxy floor sealer within the circulation area between the original building and new pool facility.  Due to possible migration of fumes, Aquatic Center staff will be located to other areas for scheduling and reservations.  Watch for a future announcement from the Community Services Department providing staff locations and availability.

The County appreciates the public’s understanding and patience as we work through these supply chain issues.  The County will provide more information and updates as they become available.
