UNM-LA NEWS RELEASE
UNM-Los Alamos will transition to “remote operations” on Monday, May 9, as the designation of Los Alamos County moves to “Set” status due to Cerro Pelado fire.
Los Alamos County and Los Alamos National Lab announced on Sunday that as of 8 a.m. Monday morning, May 9, the area will be officially in the “Set” status according to the “Ready, Set, Go” protocol. There are currently no evacuation orders for Los Alamos County.
Similar to Los Alamos County and Los Alamos National Lab, the UNM-LA campus will move to primarily remote operations effective Monday, May 9. We expect to remain in this status for one week or until the fire is brought under control.
Instructors should contact students based on plans developed by the Office of Instruction last week. Student services will also be reaching out to students via an email. Students should reach out to instructors as well for additional guidance.
All staff should work with their supervisors to start remote operations. Employees who can telework may come on-site between 8 a.m. and noon Monday to gather any items necessary and also ensure all workspaces are secured. We will notify you of further developments by text, email, and on the UNM-LA website.
The graduation ceremonies scheduled for Friday have also been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.
Also, the UNM-LA Advisory Board meeting previously scheduled for Monday, May 9, has been postponed.
This shift to remote operations is similar to UNM-LA’s transition during part of the COVID-19 pandemic and will allow the campus to continue essential operations. We ask that everyone please show mercy and grace to all individuals during this uncertain period. And we continue to be grateful for all of the people who are working to control this wild fire.
