Response To Valerie Shelley’s Letter About Bel Canto

Los Alamos

Ms. Shelley, I am curious as to why you chose to object to this particular performance from the high school music program. Earlier this year, the high school theater presented Les Miserables, which includes explicit mentions of prostitution, theft, and violent deaths, including the fatal shooting of a young boy on stage. So, Les Miserables would seem to also glorify “violence as entertainment.” Did you contact the school and ask the community to demand the cancellation of that performance?
