Los Alamos has many engaging activities for children and families this summer.  The Los Alamos Community Educator Network has compiled this list as a useful resource.

Fuller Lodge Art Center

Fuller Lodge Art Center is pleased to offer Summer Camp 2022 for students in 1st-12th grade. Week long sessions run June 6th through August 10th . They’re especially excited to have expanded their teen camps this summer with local artists and authors. Los Alamos Nature Center

PEEC is offering full-day summer camps for grades 4-8 in June, including a new Space Camp, Nature Odyssey, and Living Earth Adventure Program. They also have Mountain Bike Club for grades 9-12 in June, and camps for the weeks of August before school starts for grades 1-6. They’ll have Summer Family Evenings with live critters and more every Wednesday in June and July (and one in August) at 6 p.m., family movies in the planetarium, free Wednesday afternoon star shows at 3 p.m., and much more. PAC 8

PAC 8 is offering media classes for all ages this summer. Classes offered include beginning and intermediate video and editing, drone flight and videography, music production, GoPro video, special effects and music video production.

Los Alamos STEAM Lab

STEAM Lab will be offering full and half day summer camps in June and July.  Camps will have a lot of unstructured time outside and inside as well as hikes, water days, farmers markets, robots, Lego, and more.  Each week will have a loose theme such as art, programming, or engineering.

Los Alamos ScienceFest 

Los Alamos ScienceFest 2022: Exploration will take place July 12-17, with Discovery Day at Ashley Pond on Saturday, July 16 from 10am-3pm. Come experience a week full of workshops, conversations, movies, hands-on demos and more to celebrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) topics for kids and adults of all ages! Most events will be free to the community and visitors.

Los Alamos Family YMCA

The YMCA will be offering three different camps this summer.  Y Camp is in June and July for kids K-7. Kids will explore a specialized theme each week during the summer through cooking, art, drama, and time in nature. 

The Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program is for youth entering 8th-9th grades They have the opportunity to attend Y camp as leaders who support counselors, learn new skills, and participate in programs designed to meet their needs as teens.

“Love Los Alamos” is an August camp for kids entering K-7th grades. They will practice safety while visiting some favorite kid-friendly spots around our beautiful town!

High Flyers Gymnastics

High Flyers Gymnastics is offering a summer full of fun, weekly theme camps. In addition to daily, structured gymnastics instruction, your kids will enjoy theme-related learning and crafts, active indoor and outdoor games and activities, stories, costumes and skits, weekly field trips, and plenty of gymnastics fun! Summer Youth Film Intensive

This 3 week program in July will take participants (aged 13-18) through all of the steps in the process of creating an original short film. Students will write, produce, and star in multiple original short films for entry in a statewide youth film contest. This program is a collaboration between the Teen Center, Youth Activity Center, Fuller Lodge Art Center, & PAC 8.

Los Alamos Fair & Rodeo 

The Los Alamos Fair & Rodeo will take place Aug. 12-14, with a parade rolling down Central Ave. at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13. All ages are encouraged to register for a parade entry and come out to watch the festivities! Los Alamos School of Gymnastics

Looking for an alternative to Daycare for your elementary-aged child?  LASG has the answer with the most flexible program in town!  Join our Summer Sports Camp Program for 1 to 5 days per week, full days, half days, or any combination.  Drop off as early as 7:30 a.m. and pick up by 6:00 p.m.  Half day starts or ends at 12:30 p.m. 


Enjoy fun, fitness, and instruction in a safe environment with our highly qualified, certified staff at a low student:teacher ratio.  Campers receive an instructional gymnastics class every day, including all Olympic events.  They also enjoy supervised free play or fun alternate activities to enhance strength, flexibility, coordination, and body awareness.  There are many additional activities and weekly field trips with ACT.

Los Alamos Public Library

Read Beyond the Beaten Path with summer reading and programming June 6-July 30. The library has great programs for children and teens including Ready, Set, READ!, Random Fandom, What’s Up Wednesday, and more. Teen scratchers are available daily and there’s a question of the week for elementary kids. Check the library calendar for details of programs and tracking reading for beads and other prizes.
