For more information, please e-mail lacpw@lacnm.us, call 662-8150, or visit the “Projects/Public Works” link at http://www.losalamosnm.us. Please slow down and use caution within the construction work zones. Please note the below information is based on a schedule provided by the contractors and may change due to weather or other delays.
Sherwood Boulevard Roadway and Drainage Improvements
Sherwood Boulevard is closed to thru traffic for road and drainage work. Crews with Star Paving Company will continue road and drainage improvements on Sherwood Blvd. between Piedra Loop and Aztec Ave.
Currently, crews are removing curb and gutter, selected driveways and have begun trenching for installation of a storm drain requiring Sherwood Blvd. to be closed to thru traffic from Grand Canyon Dr. to Aztec Ave. Sidewalks will be closed and barricaded to pedestrians. Traffic devices and detour signs are in place to help motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians navigate around the work zone. Pedestrians may utilize Atomic City Transit while sidewalk closures are in place. Vehicular access is limited to those who reside in the immediate work area and to mail delivery, emergency services, trash, and recycling collection. For safety of the traveling public, residents are asked not to or remove or relocate traffic control devices, signs, and barricades. Area residents who may have special access needs are asked to contact the Public Works Department.
Closure of Sherwood Blvd. from Grand Canyon Dr. to Aztec Ave. for this first phase of work is scheduled through the end of June 2022, while closure for the next phase of roadwork from Piedra Lp. to Grand Canyon Dr. is scheduled for June to July 2022.
In addition, Bixby Electric is working at Piedra Lp. and Sherwood Blvd. installing a new streetlight at the intersection.
Work schedules are subject to change pending weather conditions and any material shipping delays. Work Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Leisure Lagoon
The sidewalk along Canyon Rd. – across from United Church parking lot – remains closed up to the Canyon Rd./Central Ave. intersection. Pedestrians and bicyclists can still use the bike lane. The closure is anticipated to last one more week.
Canyon Rim Trail Partial Closure due to Construction Activities
Contractors for Qualcon Builders (Canyon Walk Apartments) will be placing rock along the southside of the Canyon Rim Trail between DP Rd. and the DP Canyon Bridge from Monday, Apr. 18 through Friday, Apr. 22 between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. During this activity, the southside of the trail will be closed intermittently when the rock is being placed by a small piece of equipment. Contractor employees (flaggers) will be on site to direct trail users safely through the work area during these times. Trail users are asked to use caution and follow the direction of the flaggers during this work.
