Los Alamos High School Junior Varsity Softball traveled to Taos on Friday, April 1 for their first district games against the Tigers.  They swept them 12-10 for the first game and 11-8 in the second game.

Sydney Kitts, JV’s starting catcher and lead off batter, hit her first 3-run home run in the first game.  This gave the Toppers the lead in the top of the 4th inning 6-5.  Taos answered in the 4th and 5th innings and LAHS headed into the 6th inning down by 3.  Two singles and a double drove in 4 runs.  Adia Fortin, Los Alamos Middle School 8th grader, returned to the circle for the first time since 2019 when she got injured and her battle began to get back on the field.  Her lefty debut couldn’t have gone any better! She allowed 2 hits, 1 unearned run and 3 strikeouts.  Heading into the 7th they were tied 10-10.  LAHS put up 2 runs and their defense closed it out to win 12-10.

The LAHS sophomore, Sydney, hit another 3 run bomb in the second game to put LAHS within 1 run of Taos in the top of the 6th inning.  The starting 8th grade pitcher, Sierra Gonzales, went 5 innings with 5 strikeouts. Freshman, Malaya Haynes, relieved Sierra and struck out all three batters in the bottom of 6th.  LAHS was down by one going into the 7th inning and they put up 4 runs on Taos and didn’t allow anymore runs to end the game with a 11-8 victory over the Tigers!
