Visitor Fatality At Bandelier National Monument Announced

BANDELIER NEWS RELEASE

Early Wednesday afternoon, an unidentified visitor was killed while climbing up to the Alcove House at Bandelier National Monument. 

After being struck by a falling rock, the visitor fell about 30 feet down the second of four ladders. A crew of first responders, including Bandelier Visitor & Resource Protection Rangers and the Los Alamos Fire Department responded. While being lowered to the ground with ropes and a litter, the visitor became  pulseless and could not be resuscitated by rescuers. Information is being withheld pending notification of family. 

Alcove House remains closed while this incident is under investigation.
