Early Wednesday afternoon, an unidentified visitor was killed while climbing up to the Alcove House at Bandelier National Monument.

After being struck by a falling rock, the visitor fell about 30 feet down the second of four ladders. A crew of first responders, including Bandelier Visitor & Resource Protection Rangers and the Los Alamos Fire Department responded. While being lowered to the ground with ropes and a litter, the visitor became  pulseless and could not be resuscitated by rescuers. Information is being withheld pending notification of family.
