The Los Alamos Middle School Science Bowl Team 1 comprised of Andrew Bacrania, Jasper Carpenter, John Kang and Alyssa Sun has won the Regional Science Bowl and advanced to the national level.

The middle school had two teams competing in the regional contest held earlier this month.

“Both teams played well,” said LAMS Science Bowl Coach Lindsey Fullop. “The National Science Bowl contest dates and location (virtual or in person in Washington DC) are yet to be determined but we are very proud of both teams and look forward to the next round of competition against other schools throughout the country.”

Members of Team 2 include Hayden Shelton, Anna Simakov, Michael Witkowski and Emily Xu.

Los Alamos High School also sent two teams to compete in the regional Science Bowl, held virtually and hosted by Sandia Labs. Members of the A team included seniors Andy Corliss, Phillip Ionkov and Jennie Gao, sophomore Minhtet Htoon and freshman Linnhtet Htoon. Seniors Cinyoung Huang and Aaron Philip, junior Quinton Geller and freshmen Asher Koh and Tor Leitner comprised the B team.

The A Team received second place in a very close final competition, being narrowly beaten out by La Cueva.

“I am so proud of all of our Science Bowlers,” said Coach Ali Renner. “They endlessly impress me – not just with their huge knowledge base, reasoning ability, and sheer speed – but also for their sportsmanship and support of one another.”
