Los Alamos County Council Chair Randall Ryti Seeks Re-Election

Los Alamos County Council Chair Randall Ryti

BY RANDALL RYTI
Candidate for Los Alamos County Council

Last week I filed for re-election to the Los Alamos County Council. It has been a privilege to serve as a Councilor for the last 3+ years. I seek your support in the 2022 elections in order to continue serving the community.

One of my continuing priorities is availability and access to public health services. This need has been apparent for the last two years during the pandemic. Availability of behavioral and mental health services remains a need for Los Alamos and the region. The County can continue to partner with the State and our regional neighbors to find solutions to this need.

Another priority is protecting and improving our environment. Progress in this area requires that we better define impacts of County actions, establish policies regarding development or redevelopment, and requirements for new construction. The County is in a unique position because we manage a department of public utilities.  We can make investments in infrastructure for long term efficiency and resiliency for electric generation and distribution. Such investments should include local storage including maximum use of vehicle to grid technology. We can also be more efficient in our use of groundwater, which serves all current and planned future uses for the County.

I want to see the County do more to support the development of the missing middle housing in our local market as well as continuing to develop income-qualified affordable housing. New developments should be all electric, integrating solar generation, storage, and electric vehicle charging.

Support for local businesses is also a priority, and initiatives to make substantial progress have not been successful. One of the things I look forward to during the campaign is to have the opportunity to engage with voters. I like to hear your ideas and concerns and take these into account when we set policy or funding. I also draw upon my personal experience in serving on the Council, running a business in Los Alamos, and volunteering for non-profits.

My campaign website is live (www.ryti4council.com) and you can contact me with your ideas or set up a time to meet. You can also send me an email to ryti4council@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

Editor’s note: Randall Ryti was elected to the Los Alamos County Council in November 2022. He is currently serving his second year as Council Chair.
