Suzie Havemann Announces Candidacy For Los Alamos County Council

BY SUZIE HAVEMANN

My name is Suzie Havemann and I am announcing my candidacy for Los Alamos County Council.

I am doing so because I’ve been fortunate to live and work in this special community for many years.  I grew up in White Rock and graduated as a Hilltopper.   My parents, Gordon and Molly Spingler, inspired me with their contributions to our community– my mom as a beloved school teacher and my dad through his involvement with nearly every nonprofit in town, from the Ski Club to the YMCA, economic development, and more.

My husband Scott and I returned here from the Bay Area to raise our two sons and enjoy varied career paths.   As a volunteer during the Cerro Grande Fire, I started the Los Alamos: No Better Place campaign.   My background from working for the Laboratory, County, Chamber of Commerce, and as a Realtor, along with various volunteer activities, has given me an invaluable breadth of experience here.

At this stage of my life, I think it’s important to walk your talk and be the change you want to see in the world.   I am thankful for what Los Alamos has provided my family and want to help make a difference in making sure Los Alamos remains the best place for people to live, work, and play.

There are many opportunities I care about including the decades long need for more affordable housing, a strong relationship with LANL, activities for our kids, guiding Los Alamos to a zero-carbon future, and good governance.

I look forward to serving the community that means so much to me.
