Dear Los Alamos County Councilors,
As the Council hears the report from the Los Alamos Resiliency, Energy & Sustainability Task Force (LARES) this evening, you all know that although the Task Force is only a year old, the problem LARES is addressing was first noted by Svante Arrhenius in 18—as in “eighteen”—96. Had we dealt with the problem then, or with the warnings we’ve heard decade after decade since, we would have prevented this climate catastrophe the Earth now faces,
We can’t go back in history to pay attention to the science, but we can go forward into the future. Following the LARES recommendations will help curtail the damage we’re doing to the environment now.
Your Yes vote today is our future’s “If-only” moment.
Climate is now our Manhattan Project. February 22, 2022 is like our grandchildren’s July 16, 1945. We’re joining our allies to save the Earth. As a resident of Science City, I join the rest of our enlightened community to say thank you for voting Yes to fund the recommendations of the LARES task force.
