Interim Superintendent
Los Alamos Public Schools
Tonight, Monday, the Los Alamos School Board voted to make masking optional at all Los Alamos Public School sites and events effective immediately. Masks will still be required on school buses and indoors for all preschool staff and students. Students, staff, and visitors are encouraged to exercise their personal choice and protect themselves.
We believe that continuing to mask is the best strategy but respect personal choice. We have masks available for those who need one.
We expect everyone to respect individual choice. There will be no tolerance for any teasing, bullying, or shaming for those individuals who choose to wear a mask or choose not to mask. We encourage everyone to get a vaccine or booster when they are eligible.
These changes will bring concern for some of you and for your children. If you have questions about whether or not your children should continue to mask, please reach out to your health provider or school nurse. If you would like to talk about special accommodations for your child, please reach out to your school principal or teacher.
I hope that we can respectfully move forward and understand that we are a community of diverse opinions and needs. We all care deeply about your children and will continue to work with you individually to find appropriate solutions for your family.
