Los Alamos Public Schools Celebrates School Board Appreciation Month

School districts across the country are celebrating School Board Appreciation Month, and Los Alamos Public Schools is no exception. During Tuesday night’s School Board meeting, Interim Superintendent Jennifer Guy presented School Board members with certificates of appreciation for the work they do for the district.

“We are grateful for all of the time and energy each Board member puts in to make our school district great,” said Interim Superintendent Jennifer Guy.

LAPS School Board members are:

Melanie Colgan, School Board President

Christine Bernstein, School Board Vice President

Antonio Jaurigue, School Board Secretary

Erin Green, School Board Member

Ellen Specter, School Board Member

Ms. Specter is the veteran member, having served on the School Board since 2017. She represents District 1 which includes Pinon Elementary. Mr. Jaurigue is the newest board member, having been elected this past November to represent District 2, Chamisa Elementary. They are both excited about the upcoming construction projects at both schools over the next few years.

Mrs. Colgan was appointed to the School Board in August 2020 and was recently elected to continue representing District 4 (Barranca Elementary and Los Alamos Middle School). Ms. Bernstein started her first term on the board in January 2020 and represents District 3 (Aspen Elementary). Ms. Green was appointed to the School Board last July and was elected this past November to continue representing District 5 which includes Mountain Elementary and Los Alamos High School.
