Los Alamos High School Assistant Wrestling Coach Paul Gonzales Dies In Tragic Wednesday Morning Accident


Los Alamos High School Assistant Wrestling Coach Paul Gonzales died tragically in an accident Wednesday morning, LAHS Principal Carter Payne announced late Wednesday afternoon.

“It is with deep regret that we inform you about a recent loss to our school community. This morning our Assistant Wrestling Coach, Paul Gonzales, died tragically in an accident,” Payne said in an email to wrestling parents.

He noted that the loss of Gonzales is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for the school’s wrestlers.

“Coach Wilson informed the team this afternoon at the beginning of practice, and the students had some time to process the news together this evening,” he said.

Payne said LAHS and Los Alamos Public Schools have a Crisis Intervention Team made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel at difficult times such as this.

“The high school will have counselors available for any student who may need or want help or any type of assistance surrounding this loss. We encourage you, as parents, to also feel free to use our resources to support your child,” he said.
