Patrick Rutherford passed away December 28, 2021. He was born in Flint, Michigan on April 13, 1939 to Thomas Perry and Rita Rutherford and moved with his family to Los Alamos, New Mexico in 1950.

Patrick is survived by his children Timothy Nolan Rutherford, Kenneth Mark Rutherford (wife Barbara Gilbert),.and his daughter Margaret Shanahan of Centerville, PA (husband Bill Altmire, deceased) whom he met through the help of his niece, Maria and brother Victor.

Pat’s siblings are: Tom Rutherford (deceased), Joe Rutherford (deceased), Don Rutherford, Liz Rutherford (deceased), Ken Rutherford (deceased), Bob Rutherford, and Victor Rutherford. His grandchildren are: Brandon Boyd Gilbert (deceased) and Shane Andrew Gilbert. For the past 15 years, Fran Stovall was Pat’s cherished soulmate and partner.

Pat was born in Flint, Michigan April 13, 1939 to Thomas Perry and Rita Rutherford. Pat graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1957, then enrolled in Eastern NM University, spending a year of study in Mexico City. In 1961, Pat enlisted in the USAF and remained active duty until 1965, then remained in the USAF reserves until 1967. Pat met and married Gloria Lopez (Dvorak) in 1964 and from 1965-1967, he attended the University of Nevada where he completed a Bachelor Degree, and began working for General Electric. In 1971, Pat returned to Los Alamos to raise his family, help manage the Rutherford family hospitality business, and founded Enterprises investment properties business.

Pat’s hobbies and activities included photography, hiking, bowling, racquetball, crossword puzzles, and playing card games. Pat was beloved by all who knew him. Extremely social and generous with his time, Pat always gave pause to engage with others. Pat was a role-model for many who knew him, and his presence will be deeply missed.

A graveside service and reception will be held sometime in the spring.
