For one, I would like to see more goods and services available to Los Alamos County residents. Since I was first elected to the county council in the early 80s, I have been collecting data on the Los Alamos economy using publicly available sources (Quarterly RP-80 Reports: Gross Receipts by Geographic Area and NAICS Code : All NM Taxes (

The attached chart shows annual taxable retail activity in Los Alamos from 2007 to 2021. 

Activity was declining until the time the Smith’s Marketplace was opened in July 2014; it has increased since then. 

In fact, the past year has seen the highest level of retail activity over the interval.
