Dragnet’s Sgt. Joe Friday character frequently implored female informants to provide “Just the facts, ma’am”.
For one, I would like to see more goods and services available to Los Alamos County residents. Since I was first elected to the county council in the early 80s, I have been collecting data on the Los Alamos economy using publicly available sources (Quarterly RP-80 Reports: Gross Receipts by Geographic Area and NAICS Code : All NM Taxes (newmexico.gov).
The attached chart shows annual taxable retail activity in Los Alamos from 2007 to 2021.
Activity was declining until the time the Smith’s Marketplace was opened in July 2014; it has increased since then.
In fact, the past year has seen the highest level of retail activity over the interval.
