PEEC, Century Bank To Stream Backcountry Film Festival Jan. 21-23

The Pajarito Plateau’s premier environmental education museum is teaming up with one of New Mexico’s original financial institutions to bring the famous Backcountry Film Festival into Los Alamos living rooms again Jan. 21-23.

The Backcountry Film Festival is produced by the Winter Wildlands Alliance as a celebration of all things snowy, winter, and wild. This year’s backcountry skiing and adventure short films aim to inspire audience members across the world through stories about the impact and importance of our planet’s winter wildlands. The Pajarito Environmental Education Center is thrilled to partner with Century Bank to make the festival more accessible than ever for New Mexicans by sponsoring a virtual version of the event locally.

“We love sharing these amazing films of snowy backcountry adventures with the community. We’ll miss gathering in person at the Reel Deal, but hope people still get inspired by them to go outside and enjoy winter!” said Katie Bruelll, PEEC Executive Director. “Ticket sales support PEEC’s snow school field trips for local students, and we hope those experiences will inspire the next generation of champions for nature.”

The Backcountry storytellers embrace diverse backgrounds and perspectives which encourage and empower communities to grow and flourish, which aligns with both PEEC and Century’s missions. Pajarito Brewpub & Grill is also joining in on the partnership by offering a discount on dine-in or takeout for audience members who will be in the Los Alamos area over the festival weekend.

“Because we are privileged to do business in one of the most beautiful places on earth, we take our responsibility as stewards of the environment very seriously,” said Karen Easton, Vice President of Century Bank Los Alamos. “Teaming with PEEC to provide quality and engaging educational content for families is our long-term investment in tomorrow’s caretakers of priceless wilderness resources.”

Audience members will receive credentials to stream the festival for 48 hours online beginning Friday, January 21 at 6 p.m. Admission costs $20/person or $40/household and, thanks to the PEEC and Century partnership, Los Alamos ticket holders will also enjoy a 20% coupon for takeout or dine-in from the Pajarito Brewpub & Grill (valid January 19-23). For a full list of this year’s films and a link to register, visit: https://peecnature.org/events/details/?id=37743
