County Encourages Remote Business With Customer Care Center

COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

With the latest uptick in COVID-19 cases, residents who need to visit the Customer Care Center in the Los Alamos County Municipal Building are reminded that it may be safer and simpler to conduct that business remotely.

“The workplace challenges posed by the omicron variant are becoming more serious and difficult,” said Heather Garcia, Deputy Utility Manager of the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities. “We strongly encourage our customers to move their business to the phone, email and web whenever possible. It’s important to us to keep our staff and our customers safe and limiting in-person interactions is one of the most effective ways we have to do that.”

Los Alamos citizens can conduct most county business with the Customer Care Center via phone or email from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the work week. The Customer Care Center is currently limiting in-person transactions to a single window in the Municipal Building lobby.

“Because call volume is increasing with this request, there may be a longer-than-usual wait time,” Garcia said. “Customers are welcome to bypass the wait once prompted, press ‘5’ and leave voice mail for the staff. We’ll be checking for messages and returning calls throughout the day.”

Managing account information, accessing past and present utility bills, viewing payment history, and making payments online can be accomplished through the Utilities Self-Service Portal, a free cloud-based portal offered online by the department’s billing software vendor. Information on how to register and set up a secure profile link is posted on DPU’s website at: https://ladpu.com/Utilities-Portal

Of course, customers can continue to pay bills through the mail or utilize the payment drop box conveniently located in the Municipal Building parking lot.

Customer Care representatives can be reached by phone at 505.662.8333 or by email at CustomerCare@lacnm.us. The Municipal Building is located at 1000 Central Avenue, Los Alamos, NM.
