LAPD NEWS RELEASE
Los Alamos Police Department Cmdr. Preston Ballew is advising the public that there have been reports of people receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be LAPD Sgt. Ben Irving.
“The caller goes on to tell people they have warrants and must pay immediately through various means over the phone to avoid being arrested,” Ballew said. “People should not respond to these types of calls and should hang up on the caller immediately”.
Law enforcements usually advise the public that they will never receive a phone call telling them their is a warrant for their arrest or they need to pay fines. Those matters are handled by paper documentation and typically arrive in the mail or are served by a uniformed officer.
Nobody should ever agree to meet someone who calls and demands cash payment.
