PEEC NEWS RELEASE
Join the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) for two talks this week about projects happening at Bandelier National Monument. The talks were organized in part by PEEC’s Young Adult Advisory Group (YAAG) and will be given by current interns at Bandelier. The presentations will take place via Zoom at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7 and Wednesday, Dec. 8. Both events are free to attend, but advance registration is required at peecnature.org/events.
Tuesday night’s talk will focus on efforts Bandelier is making to protect and restore its natural resources. Intern Kathryn Brooks will give this presentation. She will discuss conservation efforts, including bird banding and beaver and cutthroat trout reintroductions. Bandelier natural resource interns have a wide range of responsibilities and participate in all of these projects.
In Wednesday’s talk, intern Marissa Ardovino will talk about local threatened and endangered species and survey efforts conducted at Bandelier. She will detail her experiences working on surveying for the endangered Jemez Mountains Salamander, New Mexico Meadow Jumping Mouse and Mexican Spotted Owls. The goal of this presentation is to increase awareness about these research projects and to inform a younger audience about the potential of doing this type of work in their future careers.
Both talks will have a high school audience in mind, but are open to anyone that would like to learn more about these topics. Young adults that are interested in potentially pursuing a career in conservation-related fields are especially encouraged to attend!
