LAAC NEWS RELEASE
The Los Alamos Arts Council hosts the next free Brown Bag performance from 12 p.m.to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3 in the Pajarito Room at the Fuller Lodge. Come take a lunch break and listen to Kathleen Ryan at the piano. Kathleen Ryan has an AB in music and anthropology at Duke University and an MA in music at the Claremont Graduate University. Her piano teachers included Alice Shapiro, Ivan Waldbauer, and Barbara Lister-Sink.
Kathleen was the 2008 Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico Commissioned Composer, for which she composed Verbs, a set of 24 preludes for piano left hand alone. Verbs was released on CD in 2014, recorded by Santa Fe pianist Keith Porter-Snell. Kathleen has recorded five albums of her original piano solos. She is currently at work on a sixth, Meditations of My Heart, which will feature arrangements of devotional songs and hymns as well as originals.
Kathleen’s music demonstrates a contemporary impressionist style which borrows techniques and forms from classical, folk, blues, and Broadway music. In a varied career, she has played snare drum in a marching band, composed a folk rock opera, improvised music for dancers, delivered singing telegrams, and composed and directed music for theater productions. She lives in the wilds of New Mexico with her husband, two magnificent cats, and a nearly tame squirrel.
Masks are required and there will be a limit of 50 people in the venue. Brown Bag performances are held at Noon on the first Wednesday of the month since 1973. Plan ahead and mark your calendars for next month’s program for Black Mesa Brass at noon on December 1st!
