The Hills Apartments To Celebrate Groundbreaking Nov. 3

COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

The Hills Apartments, a new housing development at 121 and 141 35th Street (the intersection of 35th and Finch Street) will host a Groundbreaking Ceremony at 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 1. Grading of the site commenced in the Summer of 2021, and the developers are please to begin the construction of the apartments themselves.

The site is the former Los Alamos Site Office, or “LASO” for Los Alamos National Laboratory. The development was realized through the conveyance of land to Los Alamos County from the Department of Energy (DOE) for the purpose of Economic Development.

Los Alamos County rezoned the property and made it available for development through a competitive RFP process, with LAH Investors being awarded the contract to develop by the County Council in 2018. Los Alamos County is partnering with the project to pay for offsite infrastructure which will serve the site. The public improvements are county owned and maintained.

The site plan for 149 multifamily apartments was approved in July 2019 by the Los Alamos County Planning & Zoning Commission. The apartments are market-rate and consist of seven buildings with 149 units – 30 1bd/1ba, 84 2bd/1ba, and 35 3bd/1ba with 107 garages on 9.23 acres. The complex will have amenities including electric car charging stations, pool, spa, pool ramada with fireplace, BBQs and TV, a large outdoor patio, a tot lot, and two additional on-site ramadas with BBQs. The community building will include a fitness center, kitchen, and community room with a fireplace.

County staff is working closely with developers and contractors to ensure the success of the project through all steps of the development process.  Pre-leasing will commence in 2022 and details, when available, will be posted on the Los Alamos County Housing webpage at https://www.losalamosnm.us/government/departments/community_development/Housing. For additional information about local housing projects, contact the County Housing Program Manager, Margaret Ambrosino at Margaret.ambrosino@lacnm.us or call 505-662-8120.
