Endorsement Of Nickole Aguilar Garcia For School Board

Editor,

Nickole Aguilar Garcia is the best choice for school board in district 5. She is a successful Hispanic Los Alamos native. As a parent with 4 children who are students at LAPS (a senior at LAHS, a 6th grader, 2nd grader, and Kindergartener all at Mountain Elementary), Nickole will be especially sensitive to the concerns of parents. Nickole is an alumna of the LAPS system which gives her a unique insight to the changes that have occurred over the years. She is kind hearted, and a great role model as a parent and for the children of this community. Her ability to listen and communicate effectively make her a natural as a school board member. She is dedicated, level-headed and works well with a wide variety of people. She takes the time to do her homework and fully understands the issues she supports. Nickole possesses the leadership qualities we need in a school board member. She stands strong in her commitments to the students, parents, and teachers in this community.  Nickole will not engage in any vicious behavior that has taken over the local social media pages or to allow our school board to become a political stomping ground.  She is committed to fight for issues that will put our students first. Her focus is on these key platform issues:

1. Education Quality and Curriculum

2. Special Education resources, as well as recruitment and retention of qualified staff.

3. Reviving the work study and trades/vocational programs at the HS.

4. Support of extracurricular activities and athletics.

5. The search for the new LAPS Superintendent

Nickole also realizes that these are not the only priorities and issues in the LAPS system. She does not discriminate against anyone and feels that all children in our schools deserve to be happy and feel safe from harassment, bullying and discrimination. She understands the mental health of our students and staff is vital to the success of our schools.  Her focus on the key issues above does not diminish the importance of mental health awareness.  We need a diverse board to represent the entirety of Los Alamos County. For all of these reasons, I hope you will join us and other LAPS parents and Los Alamos residents in giving Nickole Aguilar Garcia your support for the school board this election.
