PEEC NEWS RELEASE
Join the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) for its annual member appreciation event, PEECnic! This event is PEEC’s chance to celebrate the community and say thank you to the wonderful members who support PEEC all year long. The PEECnic will take place on Saturday, Oct. 16 from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Los Alamos Nature Center. It is open to the public, with special treats for PEEC members.
Participate in hands-on activities from PEEC educators, meet the nature center’s live animals, sample delicious desserts, watch birds in the observation room and make apple cider and ice cream throughout this special event.
Hear stories from award-winning storyteller Juba Addison from Storytellers of New Mexico from 1:15 – 2 p.m. Then, enjoy a free planetarium show with astronomer Rick Wallace from 2:15 – 3 p.m.
In addition to these festivities, PEEC members can enjoy a special gift (while supplies last). If you aren’t already a member, now is a great time to join PEEC! If you join as a new member during PEECnic, you’ll receive one extra month on your annual membership. Plus, if you bring a friend that has never been to the nature center before, you and your friend will get a fee planetarium voucher or a 10% discount coupon for the PEEC gift shop.
PEEC was founded in 2000 to serve the community of Los Alamos. It offers people of all ages a way to enrich their lives by strengthening their connections to our canyons, mesas, mountains and skies. PEEC operates the Los Alamos Nature Center at 2600 Canyon Road, holds regular programs and events and hosts a number of interest groups from birding to hiking to butterfly watching. The Los Alamos Nature Center is currently closed due to COVID-19, but there are many ways to learn about nature and interact with PEEC online. PEEC activities are open to everyone; however, members receive exclusive benefits such as discounts on programs and merchandise. Annual memberships start at $35.
