The PTO for Barranca Mesa Elementary is hosting the first annual Trick-or-Trot 5K fun run & walk on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Barranca Mesa Elementary School. The 5K starts at 9am, and the 1 Miler will begin at 10am. Wear your best costume and join in the most fun event of the Halloween season! Monsters of all ages and fitness levels are invited to participate.

Registration is $35 for adults, and $20 for children. Register at Register this week before October 10 to receive a free race t-shirt. Packet pickup will be the morning of the event, to start at 8am. Same-day registration will be available.

After the race, the community is invited to the “Monster Mash” dance party. The family-fun event will include popcorn and cotton candy to purchase, dancing, an award ceremony, and prize drawing. There will be medals for the top 3 finishers in the following categories: Men, Women, Boys, Girls, and Best Costume. The top three fastest boys and girls in the 1 Mile race will also receive medals. All racers who finish will be placed into a drawing for exciting prizes.

The course will begin and finish at the bus loop at Barranca Mesa Elementary, 57 Loma del Escolar in Los Alamos. Runners will proceed from the bus loop down Camino Encantado, then back up and head East on Barranca Rd. They’ll loop down Los Pueblos and back up Navajo and then return to the school. Runners will be on the sidewalk except the first stretch of Barranca Rd where there is no sidewalk.

All proceeds from this event will go to Barranca Mesa Elementary PTO to support their goal of improving the playground at the school. Barranca PTO President Bethany Scott can be reached at or by calling the school at 505-663-2730.
