COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

Los Alamos County Community Development Advisory Board (CDAB), in coordination with the Community Development Department (CDD) and the Communication and Public Relations Office, kicks off their public education campaign next week with a series of messages created to help the public better understand property maintenance issues in Los Alamos County, enhance the community awareness of the rewrite of Chapter 18 and portions of Chapter 16 of the County Code, and gather public input on these topics. 

Council created CDAB in May 2018 to make recommendations to the Council regarding the development, implementation, and enforcement of County property maintenance codes within the corporate boundaries of the County. The current Board priorities include public outreach and education, with the goal of improving code compliance and a general understanding of the process throughout the community. 

CDAB member Anna Dillane said, “Our goal is to educate the community about 1) the current property maintenance codes; 2) how to participate in the rewrite of this important section of local code; and 3) to learn how the enforcement of these codes has affected residents (both positively and negatively). We want to hear from everyone, so the code rewrite reflects our needs as a community.” 

Each educational message will be shared with the public via the CDAB Facebook page, the County Line Newsletter, local news media, NextDoor, and the County website. The Board expects to publish one or two messages a week for several weeks, starting with an introduction to who the Board is and how best to communicate with the Board and the County.
