Los Alamos Co-Op Park Opens To Public Saturday With Big Party

CO-OP PARK NEWS RELEASE

The new Co-Op Park at 1010 Central Avenue in Los Alamos will officially open to the public on Saturday, Sept. 25 with a big party.

“I want to thank everyone who helped us all along the journey, including our donors, the community, and the Keep It Co-Op team. We’re looking forward to having everyone join us on Saturday to not just see the park, but join in the fun,” said Matt Schmidt, CEO of Los Alamos Schools Credit Union.

The festivities will kick off at noon with the Keep it Co-Op team, and then we will celebrate the opening with live music from singer/songwriter Eryn Bent starting at 12:30 p.m. We will also have food and beverages, games and more all supported by Los Alamos’ co-ops.

“This project has been important to me since I first saw the site for the new Los Alamos Schools Credit Union. We saw the space, and when we considered the possibilities it was clear the best use of the space was to bring the community here,” Schmidt said.

Co-Op Park was completed in two phases over the last 10 months. It would not have been possible without Los Alamos residents. We had 133 total donors step in to help the Keep it Co-Op team raise $107,567, with an average donation of $210. Phase two of the fundraising will build a new stage canopy with solar panels and lighting.

Locally, the Keep it Co-Op members include: Los Alamos Schools Credit Union, Del Norte Credit Union, Little Forest Playschool, Zia Credit Union, Los Alamos Co-Op Market, and Bathtub Row Brewing Co-Op. A Co-Op is an organization that follows the Cooperative Principles and works to build a community-focused economy.
