Bandelier National Monument Invites To Bird Banding Event Aug. 27

Are you a birder? Hint: if you enjoy birds, like the male Western Tanager pictured above, then the answer is yes! A recent National Audubon Society article by Freya McGregor of the nonprofit organization Birdability reminds us that “There is no certification required to be a birder, and no one is going to check your credentials to ensure you’re ‘qualified’… Birding is for everybody and every body!” So all you birders out there, come join us at Bandelier National Monument Friday, Aug 27 between 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at the Alamo Boundary Trail to watch our Bird Banders in action! They will be catching, banding, and releasing likely dozens of birds as they migrate through the park, and can answer any questions you have about the process. What birds are you hoping to see on your next visit to Bandelier?Other dates for the public to join our bird banders include Sept. 10th, Sept. 24th, and Oct 8th. Call the visitor center at (505) 672-3861 x 0 for details.#bandelier#bandeliernationalmonument#findyourpark#encuentratuparque#birding#birds#birdbanding#westerntanager Photo by Sally King/NPS
