COUNTY NEWS
In response to questions and concerns expressed by the community regarding the Pine Street Tot Lot, Los Alamos County Community Services Department would like to provide some updates and clarification.
Over the past year the Los Alamos County Parks Division has been replacing dated play equipment throughout parks within Los Alamos County; most recently completed was Rover Park, in White Rock.
In early 2021, the Parks Division started renovation of the Pine Street Tot Lot, which included removal of all existing and dated equipment, leveling, as well as added retaining walls to help avoid future erosion to the lot. In June of this year, a public outreach survey was conducted to gain insight into what type of new play equipment the community would like to see at the Pine Street Tot Lot, with over 250 responses collected. The Burke designed play equipment for the Pine Street Lot will consist of play structures appropriate for ages 5 – 12 years old, ages 2 – 5 years old, and sets of baby swings, toddler swings, and regular swings. Since June, Los Alamos County has been working to procure the equipment and necessary items to complete the project.
Currently, there is no set completion date for the project, as construction companies continue to struggle with supply chain issues, as well as a high volume of project needs. Rest assured, the Pine Street Tot Lot will return with fun and exciting items as soon as possible. Please see the sample computer renderings of what is planned below. The overall project budget for the Pine Street Tot Lot is $85,000. For additional information, please contact Project Manager, Emmanuel Abeyta or the Parks Department at (505) 663-1821.
