This Week’s History Adventures Series Explores Kids In As A Part Of History

LOS ALAMOS HISTORY MUSEUM NEWS

Kids made history in the past—and make history today! This week in History Adventures, bring your elementary school child on an exploration of what life was like for Los Alamos kids in the past. The Los Alamos History Museum is sharing fun, hands-on activities and adventures every week this month with History Adventures at http://www.LosAlamosHistory.org/Childrens_Programs.

This week, kids can get outside with a history walk around Ashley Pond, learning about the kids of the Los Alamos Ranch School. Imagine what your walk would be like 100 years ago by comparing today’s pond with historic photos from the days of the Ranch School. Your child will also get creative by inventing their own kind of school, maybe even making a model of what it would look like. The Los Alamos Historical Society also needs your child’s help—they can share photos from the present that will help historians in the future. Understanding what kids’ lives are like can be difficult for historians, and this is a chance for your child to make history! Everything you need to get started is in the free History Adventures pdf activity packet.

There are five different themes to explore, with a new theme each week in June. Every week there will be an outdoor adventure, a hands-on activity that lets kids make history, and a photo challenge to spark kids’ creativity. We’ll share updates each week in June with information about that week’s History Adventures theme. All the activities are available now, so if you’re excited and want to try them sooner, go at your own pace! We’d love to see the connections you make with history—share photos from your family’s History Adventures and tag us @LosAlamosHistory on Facebook or Instagram.
