Public Works Projects: 

Sherwood Blvd Mapping
Construction Survey Technologies will begin sub-surface utility mapping on Sherwood Blvd between Aztec Ave and Grand Canyon Dr, and at the Piedra Lp and Sherwood intersection starting Monday.

Canyon Rim Trail Underpass 

Detour is active on NM502 which allows the contractor to work on the north side of the road installing precast concrete boxes.  Due to the amount of construction activity that includes trenching, excavation and utility relocation near the trailhead, the trailhead parking lot, and a 100 ft. section of the trail near the trailhead will be closed for safety. AUI will be hauling excess material from project site to a site off DP Road. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians and are advised to stay alert for construction personnel and equipment and use caution traveling through the work zone. 
 
ADA improvements along Trinity Drive from Oppenheimer to 39th Street 
Work continues in the east bound right shoulder of Trinity Drive starting at Canyon View Rd and continuing east to Oppenheimer. Work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting.  Traffic signs and devices will shift vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic around the work zones.

Access to residents and businesses as well as services such as mail delivery, emergency services, trash and recycling collection will be maintained. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians and are advised to stay alert for construction personnel and equipment and use caution traveling through the work zone. 

North Mesa Roadway and Utilities Improvement Project (Casa de Oro)

TLC Plumbing and Utility continues road and utility improvements on Alamo Rd, Capulin Rd, Tsankawi St, Oro Ct, Tsankawi Ct, Cedro Ct, and Big Rock Lp South.  The contractor will continue removing and replacing concrete sidewalks, driveway aprons and curb and gutter in selected areas along Capulin Rd, Alamo Rd, Tsankawi Ct and Cedro Ct. Paving will begin Monday for Big Rock Lp South and Cedro Ct. Utility work will continue on Cedro Court and Big Rock Loop (south) including the installation of new gas and water lines to residences. Utility work on Capulin Rd includes lighting, water and gas lines. Work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting.  

Traffic signs and devices will shift vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic around work zones. Access to residents as well as services such as mail delivery, emergency services, school bus routes, trash and recycling collection will be maintained. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians are advised to be alert for construction personnel and equipment and use caution traveling through the work zone.

Leisure Lagoon (addition to the Aquatic Ctr.)

The bike lane along Canyon Road by the United Church remains closed pending repaving. Bicyclists are encouraged to ride in the driving lane as the material in the bike lane is soft. The sidewalk is also closed in this area, but pedestrians can walk in the bike lane area between the traffic control devices and construction fence.

Traffic & Streets Division Projects:

Countywide Road Striping

Crews continue their annual road striping project until complete, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and finishing daily by 3:30 p.m.

Kimberly Lane and Kris Ct Concrete Work

Crews will be replacing drive pads and sidewalks at 328 Kimberly Lane and 713 Kris Ct. in White Rock all week. There will be sidewalk closures. Work will begin daily at 8:00 a.m. and end by 3:30 p.m.

Non-County Projects:
The following road construction updates are posted below in the interest of keeping residents informed, but are being managed or conducted by others. Please obey all traffic devices and slow down in work zones. Please direct questions or concerns to the project contact listed below: West Road Construction (LANL):

Paving has started on West Road and it is closed to through traffic through June 25 as even more improvements are made for your safety and the safety of workers. For the public’s safety, this includes bicyclists and pedestrians. Use West Jemez or State Road 4 instead. Road work and
roadside fire mitigation are expected to continue into July.

DP Rd (Work related to Canyon Walk Apts and The Bluffs – Bethel Development) Qualcon Builders, LLC – 120 DP Road Utility Infrastructure Replacement and Roadway

Reconstruction

Next week, roadway reconstruction activities continue with roadway grading and curb & gutter construction.  These activities will impact DP Road from Trinity Drive to Fire Station #2 with segments of the roadway restricted to one-lane traffic controlled by a flagged/signaled system.  One-lane traffic restrictions will occur only during hours of construction potentially from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm daily.  Access to businesses in this area will be maintained during these activities. 

The contractor work in DP Road is related to the new Canyon Walk Apartments (under construction) and The Bluffs senior housing (soon to be constructed). The roadway reconstruction includes installation of curb and gutter, sidewalks and paving of the roadway.  All construction activities related to the reconstruction of DP Road are currently expected to be substantially completed by the end of June. Bikini Atoll Drive (LANL):

Bikini Atoll Drive will be closed to through traffic and pedestrians in June. Follow driver and pedestrian detours. Workers will trench across the road to install a new power line for the Strategic Computing Complex (SCC). 

NM502 Roundabout Project (State DOT/Star Paving)

Work is wrapping up on landscaping in the medians and roundabout area. Slow down and use caution; be alert to workers in or near the roadway over the next week addressing final roadway items related to the pavement and irrigation for medians, bike lanes and curb/gutter; traffic may be temporarily restricted while crews move in or through the roundabout to address various items.

Related to NM502: Canyon Rim Trail repairs near roundabout (Star Paving)

While not a roadway project, crews will be actively entering and exiting this congested area along NM502 to address a section of the Canyon Rim Trail in need of repairs. The section of Canyon Rim Trail that extends behind Smith’s grocery store to behind the East Rd Fire Station will be closed Monday through Friday while crews from Star Paving repair the trail path.

Canyon Rd. Conduit/Fiber Installation – Road and Sidewalk Closures (Sons Communications)

Crews continue installing new conduit and fiber through June 30, which includes closing the sidewalk along Canyon Rd between 4 th Street and Nugget. Crews begin each day at 8:00 a.m. and end at 6:00 p.m. Contact Anita Morales 505-410-2384.

Navajo Rd Conduit/Fiber Installation – Sidewalk Closure and Flagging Operation (Sons Communications)
Crews will begin installing new conduit and fiber on Navajo Rd between San Juan and El Nido through June 30. Work will begin each day at 8:00 a.m. and end by 6:00 p.m. Expect sidewalk closures in this area and intermittent flagging operations as needed. Contact Anita Morales 505-410-2384.

Los Pueblos Conduit/Fiber Installation – Sidewalk Closure and Flagging Operation (Sons Communications)
Sons Communications will be installing new conduit and fiber on Los Pueblos between 90 San Juan to 580 Los Pueblos through June 30. Work will begin each day at 8:00 a.m. and end by 6:00 p.m. Expect sidewalk closures and intermittent flagging operations as needed. Contact Anita Morales 505-410-2384.


1505 15th Street Conduit/Fiber Installation-Sidewalk Closure, Lane Diversion and Flagging operation (High 5 networks)

High 5 Networks crews will be closing sidewalks on East and West side of the street on 15 th
Street between Nectar St and Oakwood Loop. They will also be diverting Southbound traffic to
the median through the construction zone. Work will begin Tuesday and be completed by June
28 th . Work will start each day at 9:00 a.m. and end by 5:00 p.m. Pedestrian traffic will be
diverted at the South side of the Nectar/15 th Street intersection to Oakwood Loop. No off-street
parking in this location will be allowed during this project. Contact Edgar Mendez 505-804-1415.

R and M Construction – 1010 Central Ave., Sidewalk Closure

Sidewalk access on the north side of Central Ave from 1000 Central Ave. to the entrance to the
Bradbury Museum complex is closed to pedestrian traffic through June 30. Pedestrian traffic is
detoured to the south side of Central Ave at Knecht Street and then detoured at the intersection
of Central Ave and 15 th  to the north side of Central Ave. Contact: Robert Sanchez 505-927-2027.
