Third Week Of History Adventures: Explore A Homestead Cabin And Make Your Own

LOS ALAMOS HISTORY MUSEUM NEWS

This week in History Adventures, explore the Romero Cabin with your elementary school student before they create their own model homestead cabin. Have fun discovering the connections between past and present with this week’s theme of homes in history. The Los Alamos History Museum is sharing fun, hands-on activities and adventures every week this month with History Adventures at http://www.LosAlamosHistory.org/Childrens_Programs.

What was it like to be a homesteader here 100 years ago? Explore history firsthand with a trip to the Romero Cabin. After learning about homesteading, your child can get creative making their own 3D model of a homesteading cabin from paper, drawing whatever furnishings and decorations they’d want to have if they lived here in the past. Get outside with an architecture walk, and maybe discover some hidden history right in your neighborhood! Everything you need to get started is in the free History Adventures pdf activity packet.

There are five different themes to explore, with a new theme each week in June. Every week there will be an outdoor adventure, a hands-on activity that lets kids make history, and a photo challenge to spark kids’ creativity. We’ll share updates each week in June with information about that week’s History Adventures theme. All the activities are available now, so if you’re excited and want to try them sooner, go at your own pace! We’d love to see the connections you make with history—share photos from your family’s History Adventures and tag us @LosAlamosHistory on Facebook or Instagram.
